Diana slams Kono Diasporans

By Septimus Senessie in Kono

Minister of Local Government has slammed natives of Kono district who reside in the Diasporas for “persistently using social media to criticise efforts”she and vice president Samuel Sam Sumana are making.

Finda Diana Konomanyi Kabbah was addressing a hall full of paramount chiefs in Koidu town when she claimed that they were being “unfairly blamed for directly responsible for the divide and the non-development of the district”.

She had gone to donate Le35million to the Kono District Ebola Taskforce and some food stuffs to quarantined homes in district.

Some civil society members said she had used the occasion to get back at certain people whom she considered as critics. Civil society activist based in the district and representing LEAD-SL at the forum, Tamba Senessie, told Politico that she agreed that there were a lot of “negative postings and comments on social media against Ebola donations being made by well-meaning Kono People”. He said those in the diasporas had done nothing to help fight the Ebola virus disease that was ravaging the country and the district.

Diana was not specific in her claims but made reference to comments that suggested that they as politicians were merely giving back money they had collected on behalf of their people for the past six years. She described such statements as “disappointing”, adding that Kono Diasporans had failed to help their people back home.

She vowed to provide for her people “with or without the help of the World Food Programme” who had promised to provide food stuffs for Ebola quarantined homes and suspected cases at holding centres.
