David Amanor leaves BBC

  • David Amanor

Ace Ghanaian broadcaster, David Amanor, has bidden farewell to the BBC after 22 years at the corporation in London.

The soft-spoken man joined the BBC in London

1998. He was not initially recruited as a journalist, rather as a Section Assistant to the legendary Robin White who headed Focus on Africa and Network Africa at the time.

One of David’s key responsibilities was to get support to reporters in African countries in the throes of war at the time such as Liberia and Sierra Leone.

“I never imagined myself as a journalist, I was just so happy to work in a place where African news came out of speakers in the ceiling” he said.

However he later became a Broadcast Assistant – helping producers and presenters in their work as well as looking after administration and providing technical support in the studio.

He much later became a Presenter, a Producer, and a reporter based in his native Ghana.

He later returned to London as a Presenter of one of the BBC World Service’s flagship programmes Focus of Africa and much later presented The Fifth Floor, which looks at the programme making across the BBC’s many language services.

It is not clear where David is headed.
