In Cote d’Ivoire home of journalist attacked, 3 injured

Landry Kohon, a journalist with the state-owned daily FraternitéMatin, was on November 21, 2013 attacked by a mob of about 20 young people.

The MFWA’s correspondent reported that the youth, armed with clubs, stones, cutlasses and knives entered the journalist’s house at Yopougon in Abidjan, by breaking down the gate. They then attacked members of Kohon’s household with stones and clubs. Three women got injured in the process. His car was also damaged.

Kohon, who is known for writing sensational articles, was at home when the incident happened. He, however, escaped unhurt from the attack as residents of his neighbourhood came to his aid. This forced the attackers to flee.

The attackers took away four mobile phones and a wallet. Two of the attackers have, however, been arrested by a patrol team from the Centre de Commandement des DécisionsOpérationnelles (CCDO). The police retrieved the stolen phones from them after they were searched.

According to the MFWA’s correspondent, the police has commenced investigations into the incident.

We commend the police for this move and hope the perpetrators will be brought to book.
