As the European Union Delegation in Sierra Leone Commemorate Europe Day on the 9th of May this year, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development officially launches the EU Boss tour across Sierra Leone.
The tour according to the officials will see a delegation of both the European Union and the government of Sierra Leone officials visit project sites and interact with beneficiaries to know the impact of the project on the lives of the people and the country as a whole.
Speaking at the launch of the tour at the Ministry’s Tower Hill office in Freetown, the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone Manuel Muller noted the support of the 27 member states in Europe to Sierra Leone.
He acknowledged the good relationship between the EU, the government, and the civil society organizations in the country. He said they would be doing the tour around the project communities along with the government to see what was done best and what needed to be done. “The European Union supports the priorities of the government, the Big Five Game changer, especially in the area of agriculture and showcasing support for the feed Salone project. Team Europe works with the government of Sierra Leone to better the lives of Sierra Leoneans, help women and young people in Sierra Leone, and support the government and the people to promote agriculture,” he said.
In her statement, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development Kenyeh Barlay acknowledged the support of the European Union towards government projects. She expressed her desire to join the tour, saying “It shows the corporation that you mentioned and friends celebrate together. And so we will celebrate with you today. We recognized the areas of corporations that have been mentioned and there has been input in the sectors of agriculture, health, education, and more recently in the environment and economy as the ambassador said, these interventions very much align with the government Big five game Changers,” she said.
She also said that the EU Bus tour will not only facilitate the delegation meeting the project beneficiaries but will help the people to better understand what the EU stands for.
The week-long bus tour will visit places in Port Loko, Kambia, Bombali, Kono, Bo, Pujehun, Kenema Kaiahun, Moyamba, and Waterloo.
The European Union and Sierra Leone have a long history of cooperation going back to over forty-five years of partnership. The Organization supports development initiatives in diverse sectors like infrastructural development, Youth empowerment through skills training and development, women empowerment, agriculture, Economic development, climate change, and environment among others.
