Untidy sites of businesses continue around the fence and gate of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) in on Hannah Benka-Coker Street despite efforts by the school authorities to have them vacate the school premise.
After several calls for action on the situation, Politico understands that some weeks ago the Police and other authorities went to the area and ordered all business people including the rickshaw (kekeh) garage situated there to vacate the area with immediate effect.
The Vice Principal of the Senior Secondary School, who introduced herself only as Miss Mambu, confirmed to Politico that the said area was “done with long ago” but that she was still baffled by the continued operation, noting that while they are inside the school they may likely not know what is going on outside.
Even though students are not currently attending classes, she said the administration is taking admission for the next academic year and hoping for a decongested atmosphere.
She said they are concerned about the conducive learning environment for the pupils while they are around the school, saying that the current activities especially in front of the school gate are likely to distract the girls.
