The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has commissioned a new 315 KVA power transformer at New Site Community in Bo.

The community, which according to residents went for over 15 years without electricity, was lit up on Saturday, 8th August, at a special ceremony at the Toyota Garage, in the presence of hundreds of community members.

"Light don cam, light don cam. tenki Alhaji Kanja," the happy residents shouted as the Minister switched on the power.

While addressing the jubilating residents, Minister Sesay noted that people in the community had on several occasions requested for a transformer and that he was happy that they had finally got light after so many years. He urge the community to take ownership of the facility provided them so that it can be beneficial to all residents.

“The light that has come is a quality light and it is not like candle or lamp. It is proper light that has come. What I have done today is not a favor that I am doing you, but it is my job that I am doing," he stated.

He went on: “What we have done here today is for the community and not for one person. It is owned by government but it is for you. As I have put it here today, you don't expect me to come and safeguard it for you. You should be the security to look over it.”

Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Brima Pessima Yankuba, expressed gratitude to the Minister for listening to their plea for electricity after years of suffering without it.

Chief Yankuba noted that in the absence of electricity in the community, some residents had to connect to other nearby transformers. He therefore called on the Minister to help them transfer their cables back to the community to which they should rightly connect.

“From today people will begin to buy freezers and through the Minister we have got transformer and light has come to New Site Community", Youth Chairman, Mohamed Leigh, added.

The 315 KVA transformer will benefit New Site, Yakai Street, Baimba Road and part of Nyalu Road communities.

The newly commissioned transformer, according to officials of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), is very powerful and it will give very stable light to all the targeted communities.

“I am happy that New Site has got their own transformer today. We were not getting good light here because they feed from our own transformer," Badara Dyfan, a resident of Moriba Town community, said.

Other residents of newly established communities in Bo also called on the Minister to consider them for electricity supply.
