In an emotional video released on social media, Jennifer Janet Musa has accused her husband of multiple verbal and physical abuses and called on government and human rights campaigners to rescue her from trouble.
The lab technician, 29, said her husband of three years Philip Moigua has continuously battered her and subjected her to public molestation. She told Politico that she had to request for official transfer from Moyamba to work in Bo where she rented an apartment in just to stay away from her husband but that her abusive husband persistently visits her place to abuse her.
Jennifer Musa said the police Family Support Unit line manager back in Moyamba who happens to have been transferred to Bo and their pastors and family members have always prevailed on her to be patient and to withdraw her cases against her husband from the police. She claimed that she lost her pregnancy in the 4th month due to physical and psychological abuse.
She added: “He (husband) will now meet me at the junction and laugh at me. This has been happening for quite a long time until I took a transfer to Bo because of the humiliation, the disgrace, the beatings … it was too much and it is continuing even in Bo because the same line manager in Moyamba is also here in Bo. He will always tell him to ask people to plead with me and I am a young lady therefore I cannot refuse to do what pastors and other elderly people ask me to.”
Ms. Musa said the latest incident that pushed her to go on social media was when she reported an abuse to the Bo central police station upon which her husband lodged a counter complaint at the Bo East Police station. “Because the police Local Unit Commander is his friend I became worried that the same thing was going to repeat itself. So I needed to go on social media to call for help because the LUC called me on Saturday and I could tell they wanted me to compromise but I don’t want that at all this time because my life is at risk.”
She said she has made two attempts at getting a in the court in Bo and found out that the process was expensive.
The husband Philip denied all the allegations of abuse levied against him by the wife, noting that he was a victim of abuse by the wife and has reported the matter severally. He also accused Jenifer of having extramarital affairs and being disrespectful to his family. He shared with Politico two photos of bruises on his back and a cut on his wrist which he claimed were inflicted by his wife.
Police media officer in the south, Inspector Bobson Mohamed Senu said both the wife and husband reported cases to the police of abuse at different stations and that the husband was issued a medical document and Jennifer called in for questioning which she was not satisfied with “because she said her own report was not being treated seriously.” He said both matters were being investigated.
