Justice Monfred Sesay has sent one John Alie ‘Strong Life’ Sankoh, 18, on remand on Thursday 30th September this year because he failed to appear in court without a face mask.

Sankoh was supposed to be arraigned in court on the said date on a one count indictment. The 18-year-old was charged to court for the offence of Burglary and Larceny contrary to Sections 25(1) and 13 (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, Sankoh on the 29th September 2020 in Freetown, was said to have broken with intent and entered into the dwelling house of one Patrick Lokoh Conteh and stolen on LG Mobile phone, a Nokia Mobile Phone and a musical set all to the total value of two million, three hundred and fifty thousand Leones (Le 2,350,000). The items  belonged to  Samuel Karankay Conteh.

The Appeal Court Judge refused the trial of Sankoh citing that the Correctional officers were negligent. The Judge said that all accused persons must have masks as per COVID-19 regulations.

Justice Sesay ordered that the accused who had been in remand be returned to the Pademba Road Correctional Centre until the next adjourned date of the 7th October 2021.
