Search for Common Ground, an accountability campaign group,  has held a townhall meeting in constituency 88 in Bo, to evaluate the work of its Member of Parliament (MP), Kekura Vandy.

The meeting was designed as follow up on promises Hon. Vandi made as part of debates in town hall meetings during campaigns for the parliamentary elections in 2018.

SCG conducted a series of debates for contestants in many constituencies across the country.

Tommy Macathy, Office Manager at SCG in Bo, said during the meeting on Wednesday that it offered opportunity for the electorate to speak openly and honestly about the issues affecting their communities and whether they thought their MP had done enough.

"The meeting is an acceptability meeting for our members of Parliament who made promises ahead of the elections in 2018. So, Search for Common Ground captured all the promises made by the Member of Parliament,” he said.

According to Macathy, Vandy promised to install a transformer in the constituency, develop education and sports, among many others.

Vandi’s constituency cover areas like Borbokombor, Ngalu Road and Bo No.2.

Chairlady of the opposition All Peoples Congress (SLPP) in the district, Sallay Kargbo, praised Vandy for the development work he had done for his community.

“I dwell at Const 088 and since the election ended, Hon. Vandy interacts with everyone, irrespective of your political belonging. That is why we as the APC in the constituency made it a point of duty to come and evaluate Hon. Kekura, and he is doing well," she said.

The Bo district Chairman for disabled people, Mohamed Lamin, said:

"Most of the promises made by Hon. Vandy has been fulfilled. And even we the disabled people, he helps us whenever we approach him to solve our problems."

Following his assessment, Search for Common Ground gave the MP 57% for his work in the district for the last 20 months.

Representing the youths in the meeting, Musa Kunugba praised the initiative of the organization and urging them to continue it.

“The initiative by Search for Common Ground is a good one. I am encouraging you to continue with it because our MPs will be more accountable to us.” Kunungba said.

While accepting his scorecard, Vandy said he had been successful because of his ability to listen to his people.

"A good politician should be the one who listens to the cry of the people. And one of the things my constituency people are happy about is that by engaging the media every Saturday, informing them about what happens in Parliament, I am bringing Parliament to my constituency.”
