The Anti-Corruption Commission has in a press statement announced the indictment of former Acting Principal Accountant of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone Salihu Sheku Nyallay.
The indictment according to the statement was filed on the 4th May, 2021, on three count charges of Misappropriation of Public Funds contrary to Section 36(1), and on Conspiracy to Commit a Corruption Offence, contrary to Section 128(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2019.
According to the particulars of offence, on the 14th of March 2019, Nyallay allegedly misappropriated public funds in the sum of Le24, 000,000 (Twenty-Four Million Leones) and Le35, 000,000 (Thirty-Five Million Leones) by signing cheques numbered 00082306 and 00082305 respectively.
The Commission said he facilitated “the encashment of the said cheques which were encashed on the 15th March, 2019, from the Master and Registrar High Court Account numbered 012003586 domiciled at the Bank of Sierra Leone, thereby causing the Judiciary of Sierra Leone to be deprived of the said funds”.
He is also alleged to have between the 13th and 15th of March 2019, conspired with other persons unknown to misappropriate public funds in the sum of Le59,000,000 (Fifty-Nine Million Leones ) from the Master and Registrar High Court Account numbered 012003586 domiciled at the Bank of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Nyallay is expected to appear in the High Court of Sierra Leone in Freetown on Friday 7th May, 2021.
