ACC indicts 9

Nine people have been indicted by the Sierra Leone Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for various offences, the Commission has said in a statement on Wednesday.

The accused who have been charged to the High Court of Sierra Leone include a school principal and employees of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

The ACC did not give specifics about their offences.

Joko C.R. Venn, Principal of Russel Technical Secondary School, was indicted on one count of abuse of office, as was Ahmed M. Bangura, an employee of the Freetown City Council. The statement did not indicate if the indictment were related.

Emmanuel Showers and Thailu Kallon, both of whom work for EDSA in Bo, were indicted on one count each of unlawfully causing electronic machine to perform a function directly resulting in loss of public revenue. They also were slammed with one count each for soliciting an advantage.

Saidu Bobson Kamara and Bundu Conteh, employees of the Catholic Relief Service in Makeni, were indicted on one count each of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence.

Abu Bakarr M. Kamara, whose employment status was not mentioned, was fingered by the ACC on one count of impersonation.

Mohamed Osman Sesay and Dennis Jones, also employment status unknown, were indicted on one count each of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence, and seven counts each of deceiving a principal.

The ACC statement signed by its Deputy Director of Public Education and Outreach, Patrick Sandi, notes that indictee Mohamed Osman Sesay has already made his first appearance before Justice Miatta Samba of the High Court in Freetown, while his co-accused Dennis Jones remained at large.
