The Commonwealth Africa Summit 2020 has honored Sierra Leone’s Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) for its “Outstanding Contribution to the Anti-Corruption campaign in Commonwealth Africa’’.
The aim of the award is to recognize exceptional performance in tackling corruption in Commonwealth countries on the theme: "Moving Forward Stronger Valuable."
The awards ceremony was held at the Commonwealth summit gala dinner at the Regent Park in England.
Francis Ben Kaifala, Sierra Leone’s ACC boss, expressed gratitude for the honor, noting that it was President Julius Maada Bio who reposed great confidence in his leadership, making Africa and the entire globe to follow the work of the ACC in Sierra Leone and recognizing its success.
The Commonwealth Africa Summit is an annual gathering of government and business leaders from the Commonwealth and partners, comprising high level, multi-stakeholder event with the aim of enabling dialogue and action on key and relevant issues. Among many things, the issues discussed ranged from trade, investment, entrepreneurship, job creation, economic development, security and counter terrorism. Energy and Power were also discussed.
Ben Kaifala was recently appointed as the President of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA).
Also, Transparency International’s Global Corruption survey of 2019 positioned Sierra Leone 119 out of 180 countries, moving ten (10) places upwards from 129 in 2018.
