Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown has on Wednesday sent six accused persons on remand at the male correctional center following the start of preliminary investigations into a three count charge of conspiracy to transport a prohibited drug, transportation of a prohibited drug and the unlawful possession of a prohibited drug.
Police say that the accused persons, Amos Kailie, Kolleh Kamara, Mohamed Bangura, Chernor Jalloh, Minkailu Johnny and Abdul Rahman Turay, on Monday 1st June 2020 and on diverse dates leading to Saturday 20th June 2020, at Makabie Village, Koya Chiefdom, in the Port Loko District, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone, conspired with other persons unknown to transport a prohibited drug, being 24 bales of six parcels of Cannabis Sativa to Bailor en route to the Republic of Guinea.
No witnesses were present on the part of the prosecution, and Inspector I. S Fofanah pleaded for adjournment of the hearing to prepare witnesses.
In his application for bail, lawyer for all accused persons, Musa Pious Sesay, noted that his clients had not been charged for any crime before and that if they’re granted bail, they have readily available and reliable sureties, citing the presumption of innocence of all accused persons before conviction.
All 6 accused persons were refused bail and the matter adjourned to the 20th July 2020.
