56 cases for new Sierra Leone High Court criminal session

56 cases are up for trial at the new criminal session of the High Court in Sierra Leone with offences including murder, wounding with intent, robbery and sexual penetration. All those indicted for sexual penetration pleaded not guilty before Justice Reginald Fynn on Monday 25th January.

John Koroma, a 22-year old driver was jailed for 3 years after pleading guilty to a one count indictment of store breaking and Larceny. The prosecution had alleged that Koroma on 11th July 2020, with intent to steal, broke into and entered the store of one Alhassan Kamara In Waterloo and stole one 49 inches Plasma TV valued at 3.5 million Leones and  a drum costing Le 500,000. 00.

In her plea of mitigation on behalf of the accused, defense Lawyer from the Legal Aid Cecilia Tucker urged the judge to temper justice with mercy, noting that the accused had not wasted the court’s time and was remorseful for his deeds.

Asked what he did with the Plasma TV and the drum, the accused said that the TV was at the Waterloo Police station and that he had sold the drum and used the money.
