One Alimamy Conteh, convicted of stealing corrugated zinc sheets has been sentenced to 4 years and 11 months imprisonment.
Conteh was found guilty by Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of Ross Road Court No. 3 in Freetown. He was said to have conspired with a man named Borboh to steal 50 pieces of the zinc at Mamba Ridge Kissy, Freetown on the 28th of October 2021. The stolen items were valued at 1,500,000 old Leone.
Delivering his judgment on the 16th of August 2022 Magistrate Daboh noted that since the accused is not a first-time offender, the quantum or value of what they stole does not matter but it is “the act and the preservation of society that matter."
The accused on his behalf testified to the court by relying on the statement he made to the police station.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, W.P.C J. Bangura, in her efforts to prove the accused guilty, presented three witnesses - two being factual and one formal. Conteh will serve time at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
