The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has invited 29 female players for trials starting today, leading to the selection of the national female team, Sierra Queens. The trial which starts today trial is taking place ahead of the match against Nigeria's Super Falcons in the first round of qualifiers for the 9th edition of the African Women Championship (AWC). According to the fixture released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Super Falcons will play host to Sierra Leone between February 13 and 15, 2014. According to the head Coach Hannah Williams, the trails will serve as a platform for female players to exhibit their talent and be part of the national team, noting those who succeed in the trials will commence actual training immediately and will be involved in a series of friendly matches at home and abroad "to keep the players physically and mentally fit". Asked about the cessation of the female league in the country, Williams said "it has been a concern in the past years and this affected the team's participation in major Competitions. But, she said her team has enough time now to prepare for the match against Nigeria and that ‘’we are going face them with full strength as we are not afraid of them’’. If Sierra Queens advanced to the next round, they will face the winners between Rwanda and Kenya.
