Valentine's Day may be for love but not all love relationship end lovingly; at least so it seems for a 22-year-old in Kono district.
Police at the Tankoro Division in Kono have confirmed to Politico that on the eve of Valentine’s Day Amara Tarawallie took his own life after he had allegedly been snubbed by his girlfriend.
The girlfriend, Abbie Lebbie of Bakundu New Site in Koidu could not be reached after several attempts.
Police say they are also looking out for the girl.
Crime Officer at Tankoro, Inspector Abdulai Kemokai, said that at around 7:30 am on 13 February he received a telephone call from a concerned citizen informing him that someone had hanged himself in his room at the Bakundu community.
“We rushed there immediately to confirm the claim and found out that the door to the room was locked from inside." Inspector Kemokai explained, adding "We broke in to access the room and we met the 22-year-old former SSS 3 student of the Islamic Secondary School hanging dead on a green school necktie,” he explained.
The police crime officer told Politico that on a table was a letter suspected to have been written by the deceased, bidding farewell to his family, telling them not to blame anyone as the cause of his death.
In the letter the deceased also instructed his mother to go to one of his former girlfriends, collect his 2-year-old daughter and tend to her. He prayed that his younger sister could bear a baby boy to replace him to their mother.
The police inspector also said that on 12 February, the alleged girlfriend entered a police report against the deceased at the Family Support Unit of the Tankoro police alleging that he had beaten and locked her up in a room. He said that matter was under investigation when they received message of his death.
According to Isata Kargbo, a neighbour, Abbie Lebbie, the presumed girlfriend, had told the deceased to stay away from her because her boyfriend had returned to Kono to spend the Valentine’s Day with her.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem result by Dr. Tamba Lebbie, the district medical superintendent, revealed that the 22-year-old died by “strangulation”.
The body was handed over to family members for burial.
