Justice Monfred Sesay has sentenced a 19-year-old student of Baboo College at Allen Town, outside Freetown to 10 years in prison for sexually penetrating a 12-year-old girl. In his ruling, Justice Sesay said that having examined the evidence he was able to establish that what the accused, Allieu Kamara, told the police following his arrest was nothing but a lie to cover up his deed and that the prosecution proved its case beyond all reasonable doubt against the accused for which he was convicted. \\
He said the convict had taken advantage of the victim because of the dangerous drugs they’re addicted to.
State Prosecutor, Ahmed Joseph Sesay, had told the court that the incident occurred on Thursday 12 June 2018, in Waterloo and that the victim who could not be found to testify in court was below 18 years, which is the age of consent. Four other witnesses testified.
Dr. Olabisi Claudius-Cole, head of Rainbow Initiative told the court that after examining the victim she discovered that her hymen had ben ruptured, saying that such a rupture could be caused by either sexual penetration or bike riding. She couldn’t however tell when the rupture had taken place.
In her statement to the police the victim said the accused was her neighbor and that on the day of the incident she had gone to visit her friend when the accused held her and gave her a “serious punch” which caused her to hit her head against a wall and collapse to the ground. She said Kamara then removed her pants and stuck his finger into her private parts.
