Zimbabwean Islamic scholar, Mufti Ismail Ibn Musa Menk, has said he firmly believed in building bridges and uniting everyone in society.
He made the statement during a courtesy call to President Julius Maada Bio and his wife, Fatima Bio on Thursday.
Menk is in the country as part of his “Building Bridges” tour around the continent. This his second visit to the country.
“I firmly believe in building bridges, wherein people of different faiths learn to respect each other and respect their rights to believe in whatever religion they have chosen,” he said.
Mufti Menk is in Sierra Leone with anasheed singer, Zain Bhika and his son Rashid. They would be preaching and singing today at the National Stadium where thousands are expected to turnout.
Local anasheed singers are also expected to perform alongside Zain and his son.
The organizers, Foundation of Islamic Information SL Ltd., said the program is good for the profile of the country.
The Executive Director of the Foundation, Abdul Lathief Kargbo, said they were prepared to welcome a huge crowd today.
“The turnout will be massive. It will be exceptional because this year we have mixed the preaching with some bit of entertainment. That is why Zain Bhika is here,” Kargbo said.
Kargbo praised the government for the level of support they have shown to his organization since Menk and Bhika arrived in the country on Thursday.
He said this event will also be good for the organization’s annual National Quranic Competition which would be held at the stadium later in May this year.
