Police in Pujehun have confirmed the discovery of the body of a 12-year-old boy believed to have been killed by a falling tree.
Crime officer attached to the Pujehun main Police division, Detective Guy Patrick Chico Lansana Bussu, told Politico that the matter was reported on the 8February by the town chief, Lansana Fullah.
He said the incident took place in a community known as Makorma in the Gallines Perri chiefdom, some seven miles to the district headquarters.
The Detective said the deceased, identified as Hassan Moluh, had been sent to the village to pursue education. He further revealed that the body was discovered on a road side between Makorma and Kobolia Village.
The crime officer said physical examinations proved the leg of the deceased was broken, with a cut in the head and some bruises on the body. He said a postmortem had been done to ascertain the cause of the death but that the result was yet to be disclosed.
Detective Bussu said police investigation also revealed that the deceased and two of his peers had gone maggot-hunting in the bush, and that it could have been a palm tree that fell on the victim which might have resulted in his death. He said the other two boys were cutting down the palm tree, whilst the deceased was at a distance observing, when the palm tree fell on him.
The police intend to conduct further investigation on the matter, the crime officer said.
