By Mabinty M. Kamara

The Town Chief of Henai Village in Malen Chiefdom, Chief Emurana Koroma, and four others are still on remand at the Pujehun Correctional Centre in Southern Sierra Leone after failing to meet the bail conditions set by Magistrate Joseph Toby.

The magistrate had granted bail to the chief and four other accused persons, with each to produce two sureties, one of whom should have at least fifty thousand new Leones (fifty million old Leones) in their bank account.

It was alleged that the suspects were operating a local oil processing mill at the back of Chief Koroma's house at Henai village with palm fruits allegedly stolen from Socfin Agricultural Company at Sahn Malen chiefdom. The information was divulged by one of the accused persons a security supervisor at Socfin, Sheku Mallah. 57 Jerry cans of palm oil and two locally made oil processing machines were confiscated at Henai .

The family members of all five accused men say the bail condition was stiff and could not be met

There has been a long stand-off between the company and a section of the local people in its operational community in Malen Chiefdom over disagreement in the acquisition of the lands the company is operating on.

Chief  Koroma and his co-accused are due in court again on Monday 29th August 2022.
