Two weeks after the body of 20-year-old Grace Lamboi was found around the Njala Experimental School in Mokonde, Moyamba district, the Police still have in their custody the initial suspect arrested in the matter. However, the matter is yet to be charged to court.

The Deputy Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Southern Region, Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray told Politico that the matter is now with the State Counsel for legal advice before it is charged to court.

The officer said that police during their search on the residence of the suspect who reportedly had a love affair with the deceased, found some personal belongings of the victim at the said residence which the suspect admitted belonged to her, noting that his personal belongings can also be found at her place.

“The investigation has not pointed at any other person. That is why we still have Isaac Dimoh in our custody" he said.

He stated that the police will not determine how long the state counsel will look into the matter for legal advice, given the nature of the matter. But he said the matter will be charged to court as advised by the state counsel.

Constable Mansaray said the suspect told the police that his relationship with the deceased started in 2020 but they started having issues with the relationship in early 2022.

He asked the public to exercise patience for the police to carry on their investigations though the matter has taken some time. He called on the public to help the police with vital information concerning the death of Grace.

The head of MOONTEEN, an organization that advocates for girls' and children’s rights, and also a lecturer at Njala University, Makalay Sonda who has been following up on the case, told Politico they were looking forward to the police charging the matter to court.

She said as it is a sensitive case, they want the police to take their time with the investigation. Sonda was worried that no postmortem examination was done on the body before the police granted the family permission to bury the remains of the girl.

The body of Grace Lamboi, a BECE candidate who was attending a night study camp in the Mokonde community was found naked in the morning hours of 7th June this year in Mokonde, in Moyamba district.
