The Criminal Investigations Department of the Police in Kenema is currently investigating thirteen people from Nekabu village in the Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district for the alleged murder of a two year old child Chernor Amadu Bah.

According to Police Media Officer Amara Magor a case of a missing child was first reported by the toddler’s mother Isata Bah on the 31st December, 2021. The incident reportedly happened at Nekabu village.

He said the child’s mother went to Nekabu for traditional medical treatment since her own mother was resident in that village and that in the morning hours, she went out with her son and sat him down in order to do some work. She later entered into the house to pick up something but when she came out she could not see her child.

Volunteer search teams comprising mostly youths spread out looking for the child. It was in the process period they first discovered the shoes of the child and as the search continued backed up by police officers, the child’s lifeless body was discovered in a puddle of water. The remains of Chernor were taken to the government hospital in Kenema for post mortem which later results showed that the child had a fractured neck and spinal cord. Meanwhile the town chief of Nekabu village and twelve other people were initially arrested by the police and detained for further investigations.

Isata told Politico that none of her child’s body parts were removed but had a foamy mouth.

‘’I am crying to the government to help me get justice for the murder of my baby’’ said Isata.

She stated that nobody was around that fateful morning when she came out with the baby to do some work. She is appealing to the community people to work with the police to ensure that those responsible for her son’s death face the full force of the law.

‘’Police will do all they could to get to the bottom of this matter’’, officer Magor told Politico
