SLRA engages Students on National Traffic Value Count

The Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA) has trained university students across the country on national traffic value count. The training which was held on the 29th December 2021 at district council hall Nyandeyama road in Kenema targeted two hundred and seventy three enumerators and some lecturers from the various universities.

The Director Department of Assets Management SLRA Engineer Peter Komeh said SLRA would for the first time recruit university students as enumerators. He explained that the students will be charged with the responsibility of gathering data for SLRA that will be used for national traffic value count across Sierra Leone. He said the exercise started in Port Loko, Makeni, Bo and Kenema   

He explained that the students will be taken in as interns, and that the data collection training will commenced on the 9th January 2022 and would last for seven days.  ‘’We want to test the abilities of our students in doing national traffic value survey as means of gate ways for those that will be fortunate to join SLRA upon graduation’’.

The Director also revealed that enumerators that perform extremely well will be given training on road network condition survey on various important roads across the country. He highlighted that training will also be conducted on the bridges and culverts including the conditional assessment survey, all of which will last for ten days

Kome noted that the resources will be provided by government through the road maintenance fund. Explaining the significance of the survey, Kome explained it will help inform government on maintenance and strategic planning for certain roads.

He reiterated that the survey will aid SLRA know the deteriorating state of the roads, the kind of maintenance fund to be secured. He also revealed that plans are on the way to get road monitors who will inform SLRA on the conditions of the road system. He explained that the road condition assessment survey will enable them to known the numbers of pot holes and guide on the measures to be put in place to improve on the road network.  

The Director of Administration and Management SLRA Sidie Jawara informed the trainees that upon completion of the training they will be taken to the streets for practical experience before the actual activities kick off in the New Year. He said SLRA will assign two supervisors that will coordinate the programme.
