Condolences pour in after tragic fuel accident

Condolence messages have continued to pour in following the fuel tanker explosion that has claimed some one hundred lives. Sierra Leone’s Missions around the world have dispatched messages of support. The Embassy in Conakry, Guinea says it “applauds the Doctors, Nurses and all medical professionals that have been working very hard to save lives and handle the victims”

“Our sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the Wellington fire disaster. May Allah have mercy on the souls of those that died and speedy recovery to the wounded”, a statement from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Saudi Arabia reads.

The Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo stated: “This incident calls for solidarity and not political discordance. It is another test to our resilience at a time when Sierra Leone and the globe are in the midst of a raging COVID-19 surge”.

Messages have also come from other quarters. The Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis in a statement said : “..the Parliament pledges its full support, in any way possible, and the expression of its hope of healing to the nation”.

The Ministry of Information and Communications said: “We wish to assure all victims and their family members of government‘s commitment to ensuring the best care for all victims admitted in various hospitals across the country. Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad will stand together at this difficult moment and help provide comfort to persons affected”. Companies and other institutions have been expressing messages of sympathy over the tragedy.
