The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has indicted a former Mines Compliance Officer of the National Mineral Agency (NMA) and of No. 26 Azzolini Highway Makeni, Daniel Kapri Serry on five counts of corruption offences. According to the charge sheert, Serry on different occasions between the 1st February 2021 and 29th February 2021 accepted bribe for himself in order to make use of his influence to obtain a benefit from a public body.
A release from the ACC dated 30 August 2021 stated that between the said dates Serry accepted the total $10, 000 for himself from businessmen at CHI CLMENT and SIMPLICE BEDY based in Dubai inorder to make use of his influence to facilitate the release and conveyance to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, of 15 kilograms of gold valued at three hundred and fifty thousand US dollars.
The release further stated that Serry whose indicted was filed by the ACC on the 26 A ugust 2021 also accepted an IPhone 11 so he could trace and apprehend one Fatmata Bomporo Sesay who is said to be involved in the sale of 15 kilograms of gold.
Serry is expected to make his first high court appearance on 4th October 2021, in Freetown.
The commission has reassured the public of its determination to fight corruption in all sectors and to pursue justice at all times without fear, favor or prejudice.
It could be recalled that NMA some weeks ago issued a press statement confirming the dismissal of Serry after what the institution said it launched investigations into his conduct following reports of his involvement in a gold scam.
