The Police have arrested one Charles Baguay, a National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) guard, with a loaded pistol in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.
The guard was intercepted on Monday 23rd August 2021 by police deployed along the Fenton and Mahei Boima Road axis where they had been manning a checkpoint. The Police said that the man was in possession of a ‘fully loaded’ NP Makarov Pistol at around 2 in the morning –the time of his arrest. He was also said to have been dressed in military camouflage.
The Police said that the gun and other exhibits have been handed over to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit of the Force.
The Force also reported a spate of armed robberies in the South and Eastern regions of the country.
The Police also reported the arrest of one Mohammed Abdulai John Feika with a stolen motorbike on the 16th August 2021 in Bo. Police believed that the stolen motorbike was in relation to a robbery matter at Sammai 2 Section in Kenema.
In Kenema, Upper Shelmingo Kpetema Section the Police reported to have apprehended Umaru Boima, Alfred Kailie, and Mohammed Jalloh was involved in a burglary case in Kailahun. The ‘hardcore criminals’ had been on the run after the said incident in Kailahun.
Residents in the South, Eastern neighboring towns of the country are alarmed at the new surge in robbery. As a result of that, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police and Regional Police Commander South, Aiah Edward Samadia has reportedly instructed all Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) in that region to be vigilant and strengthen key crossing points in their respective divisions.
AIG Samadia, based on the current threat assessment is also said to have instructed personnel to embark on night patrols. The Office of the Regional Commander South has also decided to incorporate the services of Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs). The police said they will also be manning snap checkpoints within the metropolis of Bo and its outskirts. The force has further decided to divide the city into zones for effective patrols both day and night.
