SANUSI COVID-19 indices update (02/08/21)

Sierra Leone recorded 1.05%, 1.69% and 1.23% increase in COVID-19 total infections, deaths and recoveries respectively over the week, from July 25 to August 1, 2021.

In comparison, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total infections was lower compared to Gambia (5.13%), Ghana (2.26%), Guinea (2.78%), Guinea-Bissau (5.77%), Nigeria (1.47%), Senegal (10.11%), Togo (3.66%), the Manor River Union or MRU (1.40%), the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS (2.57%), Africa (3.92%), Europe (1.64%), North America (1.68%), South America (1.10%), Asia (2.84%) and the world (2.00%). However, percentage increase in total infections was lower in Benin (0.84%), Burkina Faso (0.26%), Cape Verde (0.66%), Ivory Coast (0.91%), Mali (0.30%) and Niger (0.32%) compared to Sierra Leone. Liberia recorded zero increase in total infections.

However, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total deaths was higher compared to Benin (0.93%), Cape Verde (0.34%), Ivory Coast (1.23%), Ghana (0.49%), Guinea-Bissau (1.35%), Mali (0.38%), Nigeria (0.84%), Europe (0.65%), North America (0.62%), South America (1.15%) and the world (1.46%). Percentage increase in total deaths was higher in Gambia (1.92%), Guinea (11.11%), Senegal (6.62%), Togo (6.29%), MRU (3.55%), ECOWAS (2.26%), Africa (3.74%) and Asia (3.39%) compared to Sierra Leone. Burkina Faso, Liberia and Niger recorded zero increase in total deaths over the period.

Moreover, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total recoveries was higher compared to Benin (0.14%), Burkina Faso (0.10%), Cape Verde (0.85%), Ivory Coast (0.84%), Ghana (1.14%), Niger (0.79%), Nigeria (0.12%), MRU (1.01%), Europe (0.77%) and North America (0.91%).  Percentage increase in total recoveries was higher in Gambia (6.37%), Guinea (1.42%), Guinea-Bissau (2.53%), Mali (3.11%), Senegal (4.99%), Togo (2.56%), Africa (3.69%), South America (1.40%), Asia (2.31%) and the world (1.50%) compared to Sierra Leone.  ECOWAS (1.37%) recorded the same percentage increase in total recoveries as Sierra Leone. Liberia recorded zero increase in total recoveries.
