The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)  on Tuesday 27th July 2021 in its press release announced the indictment of two Western Area Urban District COVID Emergency Recovery Centre (DICORVERC) staff for allegedly selling COVID-19 vaccination card to non-vaccine takers.

The press release stated that the ACC filed an indictment on the 26th July 2021 on Gibrilla Kamara and Michael Abdulai, both Western Area Urban DICOVERC Mobilization Officers. The offence for which they were being charged included conspiracy to commit a corruption offence, abuse of office, and accepting an advantage.

It is further disclosed that on the 1st July and on the 5th July 2021, they both conspired with unknown persons to sell a fake COVID-19 vaccination cards, to non-vaccinated people at a cost Le.350, 000 per card. It is also alleged that those people that want to buy those fake vaccine card so as to gain access to public buildings and bypass contrary to National Corona Virus Emergency Centre (NACOVERC) regulations.

They are to make their first appearance before the High Court in Freetown on Thursday 29th July, 2021.

The press release further stated that they were both arrested two weeks ago in a “Scorpion Squad” video anti-corruption intelligence and sting operation, selling fake vaccine cards to members of the public in the central district of Freetown.
