The West African Examinations Council through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has created nine more National Primary School Examinations (NPSE) Centres in Falaba District for the 2021 examinations year making it 12.
The Deputy Director of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in Falaba District, Alpha Sesay said the district for the past years had only 3 National Primary School Examinations centeres which were serving the 13 political chiefdoms with a total of 232 primary Schools. The Director added that pupils and teachers from some schools within the district covered more than 30 miles distance to access the nearby examination centre in the past on very terrible roads.
He said transportation cost for parents to get their kids to those limited centres was always a burden on them. Schools in Kulor Saradu chiefdom in Falaba district were writing their National Primary School Examinations in the neighboring district, Kono, because of the 40 miles distance to the nearby Centres in Falaba District.
Sesay said the situation also affected the performance of pupils in the public examinations in the district.
Folosaba Kamba is the only chiefdom that is without a centre and will therefore take the examination in the neighboring chiefdom of Dembelia Musaia at Musaia Junior Secondary School centre, because it did not meet the threshold of the number of pupils to get a centre.
Talking about their preparedness, Sesay said the supervisors and inspectors are in readiness to man all the exams as they have made their deployment in all the centres across Falaba district.
According to Sesay, 1,781 pupils will be writing the exams today, Friday 28th May 2021 from 90 Primary Schools across the district.
He added that the Deputy Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Amara Kallon and the Deputy Minister of Justice, Napoleon Koroma supported the candidates of both Koinadugu and Falaba districts with examinations materials like pens, pencils, erasers and mathematical sets.
He advised all parents and teachers to stay away from the exams centres so as not to distract the pupils.
