By Prince J Musa in Kenema

The ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has unveiled a new district office in Kailahun town. President Julius Maada Bio on the 22 May 2021 formally opened the structure, at an event that was well- attended by party supporters.

The President praised the people at their determination to give a facelift to the party in the district by constructing the office and said it’s being opened at the time the party was celebrating 70 years of existence.

Bio stated that it was incumbent on every citizen to behave responsibly in transforming the country through development and said it is only the SLPP that will take development to the people.

He told the crowd that at 70 the party should have its own offices nationwide instead of paying rents all over the country.

He said God has given citizens an assignment to serve the country with all seriousness without looking to  those on the other side of the political divide that he said are not good for themselves and the country.

He spoke of an extensive exercise to see party offices constructed in other districts in the next two years.

The chairman of the event and also Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Egypt Dr. Allie Kabba said the new direction government has shown to the people that every corner of the country is important and that the move made by the people of Kailahun was no mistake since the district is considered as the bread basket of the nation. He stated the action of the people of Kailahun demonstrates belief in their party and belief in democracy which he said the President had manifested through investing in human capital development.

Dr. Allie Kabba said that the vision of the President is to reduce poverty through human capital development by bringing in the Free Quality Education initiative to all without any discrimination.

Dr. Kabba said the leadership of the country has presented a good image of the nation globally which has added value to the country’s democratic credentials.

National Chairman of SLPP, Dr. Alex Prince Harding told supporters that the leadership of the party has provided a platform for good governance, with the people aware that the government cares for all, and not just one region.

The District Chairman for SLPP Kailahun district Gbessay Chuckie Ngobeh said the structure was built through the commitment of 170 people from the district who hold positions in government, and also non-appointees.  Ngobeh noted it was no mistake that the people voted for the SLPP and assured the gathering that nothing will change that.   He cautioned that leadership is not about the level of education one could have but how one could impact the grassroots people saying SLPP is owned by the grassroots, otherwise the party will not forge ahead in any development. Ngobeh thanked all those that contributed in diverse ways in ensuring that Kailahun district got what he noted as a standard and comfortable party office and called other sister districts to be united in settling their internal differences peacefully. Recognition of the engineers and other traditional authorities for their contributions to the work was also part of the ceremony.
