MOPED CAPACITATES LOCAL COUNCILS ON DATABASE WEB INFORMATION SYSTEM

By Prince J Musa in Kenema

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has on 23 April 2021 conducted a day’s capacity training of staff of Local councils in the Eastern region. Chief administrators, development planning officers and monitoring and evaluation officers were introduced to developing   data base information systems at district level.

In his statement, the deputy Chief Administrator Kenema district council Patrick Jakima said the initiative by MoPED will enhance the councils performance in service delivery and in rolling out development to the rural communities within their operational areas”.

Jakima stated that the new system will also help prevent   duplications of projects within the same locality and will also assess the impact of such projects on the people.

He said the existence of website information system will help to keep data of all projects under the purview of councils and therefore encouraged participants to consider the training as important for effective and efficient services delivery.

The Assistant Director at MoPED Eugene Sawyer disclosed that the motive of engaging local councils was to ensure transparency and accountability to international development partners who have provided the funds for various projects across the country.

He said it will also portray good governance and accountability system among Ngo’s and councils.

Sawyer said the process will also ensure the verification of a project a particular donor partner is supporting because each donor before disbursing funds would want to know the district or chiefdom in which the project implementation was being done.  It will enable the councils to know the cost of each project and the implementing partners as well.

He said the national mid -term development plan set by government shows the development trajectory of what the government intends to achieve from 2019 to 2023 and which will give opportunity to donors agencies that are coming to help the government nationally to identify their areas of intervention.

He spoke about an NGO unit in the ministry that registers partners and allows them to collaborate with the respective local councils where their projects are implemented

The aid management officer Ansu James Feika  demonstrated live  web users skills during which the participants were given the opportunity to practice the web information system.
