A 21 year-old man Osman Fengai was reportedly stabbed to death on Tuesday 20th April 2021 in the eastern district of Kono by one Aiah Komba commonly known as Akon apparently after some political disagreement.
According to Tamba Senessi, a staff of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, Komba and one Muctarr Rogers also Known as ‘Mortal man Mukay’ whom he described as supporters of former Vice President, Alhaji Sam Sumana threatened to attacked him as he was heading for a radio station in Koidu town to pay for airtime to launch his campaign for a national office in the Sierra Leone People’s Party.
He said the two men accused him and the parliamentary leader of the Coalition for Change party Hon. Emerson Lamina and others of being “responsible for former Vice President Sam-Sumana not becoming the president of Sierra Leone “.
Senessi told Politico that Komba challenged him saying “If I considered myself a free born I should step out of my vehicle and face him. I then told him he shouldn’t attempt to restrict my movement in the land of my birth and as I was alighting from the vehicle I was also responding to a call on my phone. I had no idea he was rushing to attack me. One of my boys who tried to stop him was stabbed in the process”.
Senesssi said Fengai was taken to the hospital but died later.
The Police Local Unit Commander, Tankoro police division in Kono, Superintendent Frnaklyn Bawoh said they received a report in the early hours of Tuesday 21st April of a violent political clash between supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the Coalition for Change (C4C) party at Turner Street in Kono over accusations that some C4C members, now loyal to the SLPP betrayed the aspirations of the founder and first leader of the C4C party Samuel Sam-Sumana which ended in the stabbing of the 21-year-old.
He said three people, including the alleged perpetrator have been arrested while another suspect was on the run.
Superintendent Bawoh said the incident was still being investigated.
