Eastern Polytechnic gets support

  • The donated items displayed in the library

Eastern Polytechnic based in Kenema on Friday 26 February 2021 received a consignment of learning and teaching materials from the Concordia University of Edmonton at a ceremony held at the Ahmed Tejan Kabbah Hall.

The consignments, according to the college’s Public Relations unit include modernised computers and advanced text books for several disciplines, a gesture said to have been pioneered and facilitated by a chemist, Dr. Alfred Morie Saffa.

In his presentation, the Registrar Eastern Polytechnic, John Juana recalled several philanthropic ventures of Dr. Saffa to the institution. He said the Eastern Polytechnic had vast areas of land in Bunumbu, Kono and Kenema and a lot of infrastructure including human personnel. He added that the institution had the requisite capacity to be transformed to a university.

Juana therefore appealed to the government functionaries to expedite the process of uplifting the status to a university. He concluded by appealing to the   indigenes of Kenema, Kailahun and Kono, to emulate the good examples of these philanthropists.

Several speakers requested the students and the administration to use the materials for the intended purpose.

During the symbolic presentation and handing-over of the consignments to the Eastern Polytechnic Administration, Dr. Alfred Morie Saffa called on all to judiciously use the materials in the right way.

The programme was climaxed by the inspection of the books and computers in the college's Library.
