Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), Dr Brima Baluwa Koroma, has said he is seeking to raise Le 1 trillion in revenue over the next two to three years.
“In 2016 this agency generated Le300 billion in revenue; we have doubled that in 2019. In the next two to three years, we are going to transform this into a trillion leones agency,” he said.
Dr Koroma was speaking whiles receiving the Global Impact Awards from Kings Foundation International (KFI) at his office on Wednesday.
“We have tried to make this place enviable, we are building a team here,” he added.
Koroma who has worked in the petroleum industry for many years was appointed in 2018 by President Julius Maada Bio to lead the agency.
PRA, which is responsible to regulate the downstream petroleum sector in the country, was singled out by KFI because of how they have gone about doing their job.
The PRA has reviewed prices for petroleum products on several occasions over the last two years, a move that has not gone down well sometimes with the Oil Marketers Association.
The PRA was named ‘Best Government Agency’ of the Year’, whiles Dr Koroma received an award as the Best Executive Chairman.
A member of the KFI and Master of Ceremony, Patricia Ganda, said they have been watching Dr Koroma and PRA for a while before deciding on this.
“We need to award people and thank them whiles they are alive. That is why we are doing this, to say Thank You for your service. That is why we are here today,” she said.
Ganda added: “We don’t look at money; we look at how productive you are as a person. Our award is not for sale.”
Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Rev. Beola Michaels, said much of their work is based on philanthropy and empowerment.
“We have been working to empower women since 2014. We have been giving them a source of livelihood so they will not be too dependent on their husbands. We are also giving awards like these to deserving people for their contribution to society,” Rev. Michaels said.
