Statistics Sierra Leone has issued a statement warning the public to be wary of fraudsters posing as part of the institution’s management and demanding money from shortlisted candidates for the Cartographic Mapping exercise that precedes the 2020 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census.

Statistics Sierra Leone says the fraudsters have reportedly laid hands on the phone numbers of the candidates that had been displayed by the office as per normal routine, leading up to the interview process, and were calling them at will, to extort money from them.

The office emphatically denied ever requesting money or gifts from any of the candidates hoping to gain short term employment, noting that it would not do so, even throughout the entire census period.

According to Stats SL, the Sierra Leone Police and the Anti-Corruption Commission have been alerted to the actions of the fraudsters, who have been warned to stop.

President Julius Maada Bio in July this year announced the planned conduct of a Mid- Term Population and Housing Census scheduled for this December.
