According to the Crime Officer at the Tankoro Police Division, Abdulahi Kemokai, an unspecified number of unidentified youth attacked the residence of the former Chairman of the Kono District Council, Finda Diana Konomanyi at dawn on the 5 October. He told Politico that around 04:00 am on the said date he received a call from two OSD police officers guarding the house at 20 Komba Njagba Street, Sandemande in Koidu who reported the incident.
Kemokai said that the attackers pelted stones at the house but that the guards refused to shoot for fear of being called “killers”.
The crime officer said the stoning lasted for about 5 minutes with no major damage to the roof, with only one of the neighbouring houses left with a damaged zinc. He furthered that on arrival on the scene dozens of stones were found in the compound and on top of the roof of the building. He added that no arrests were made and the matter was under investigation. He said security around the house had been stepped up to ward off any future incidents.
There has been rancour between supporters of Diana and Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana who also hails from the district. Supporters of the VP allege that she was opposed to the reappointment of their man as the running-mate to president Koroma. It is not immediately whether the attack was in any way connected to that disagreement.
