The Sierra Leone Police have replaced the head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Gabriel Tommy. Tommy and five others are part of a major shakeup within the force.
Tommy who served as the CID Boss for over a year has now been deployed to Kenema as the Local Unit Commander. He has now been succeeded by the man who was the LUC in Kenema, CSP John Kenneth Alpha.
Supt. Samuel Williams was transferred from Rural Head Quarters Freetown- East to Operations Officer at the CID Head Quarters in Freetown.
Other reshuffles within the Police hierarchy include, Supt. Augustine Alie Mansaray who was transferred from the CID Head Quarter as the Operations Officer to serve as the Operations Officer at the Regional Head Quarter in Freetown East.
Supt. Richard Robert who was Deputy Head of CID was transferred to the Central Division as the Special Task Force (lead) under Director of Crime Services. Supt. Tommy Bangahun Zizer who was the Special Task Force (lead) at Central Division will now be Department Head at the CID HQ.
Transfer of Police personnel from different divisions is not done based on tenure and in most cases done randomly.
On Wednesday, the Assistance Head of Police Media (ASP) Saio Conteh told Politico that the transfer is a routine within the force that normally affect the entire command chain of the force.
“I am only aware of the transfer process which is normal in the force. However, I cannot tell reasons for their transfer in relation to promotion and demotion of ranks’, he said.
According to the notice by the Sierra Leone Police, the changes will take effect immediately.
