The Police Family Support Unit (FSU) in Pujehun District is currently investigating an alleged sexual abuse case involving a three-year old girl.
The suspect is a military officer attached to the 14 Infantry Battalion in the district headquarter town of Pujehun. Sergeant Lahai Koroma, the FSU Line Manager in the district, told Politico that the matter was first reported on December 12. He said they were investigating the 36-year old officer on alleged criminal offences of sexual penetration, ‘sexual touching’, and meeting a child for sexual purpose.
Sergeant Koroma also said the suspect is currently under police custody helping them with the investigation. He however added that they had already gathered sufficient evidence in the curse of their investigation to proceed with prosecution.
According to the local police chief, the victim reported disappeared from her home in the morning hours of Monday, only to return home by 8:30 pm the same with blood spilling from her virgina, prompting the parents to report the matter to the police.
Lahai said the suspect was a neighbor of the victim’s family.
"The suspect used to buy biscuits for the girl and sometimes called her his wife," he said Lahai.
According to the police, the suspect has denied all the allegations.
