Sports Betting and Lottery Company, Mercury International has issued a Le20 million cheque to pay for Samuel Tenga's prosthetics surgery at Choithram hospital, Indore, India. Mr. Tenga, a poor teacher in Freetown, picked up the cheque on Wednesday 10 February 2016, at the company's headquarters in Freetown. Presenting the cheque, Chairman Board of Directors, Samir Hassanyeh, pointed out that they had always considered health as a preferential area to support for as long as the company can afford to do it.
"Health is wealth, and therefore, supporting your health as a teacher in Sierra Leone, means we are supporting the wealth and strength of the nation", Mr. Hassanyeh stressed.
The chairman also stated that, the donation was done on behalf of the board, staff and retailers of the company as support to his traveling expenses to India where he would continue his treatment.
The beneficiary said he was thankful on behalf of his family. "I have got the spirit to apply for my visa and put in for my ticket, as this amount will start the facilitation of my traveling", he said.
He confirmed that he would be traveling to India in two months' time and was expected to stay for one month in hospital.
"This is the second and most important stage of my medication process", he disclosed, adding that: "The final stage will have to do with bone scanning and other medical tests that need to be done".
Three years ago, Mr. Tenga also benefited from a Le10 million support from Mercury International Charitable Foundation for his skin grafting operation in India demand.
