Police Academy due in October

By Mohamed Vandi in Kenema

The website manager in the community relations directorate of the Sierra Leone Police Force has disclosed that the proposed Sierra Leone International Law Enforcement Academy would be fully functional in October.

Assistance Superintendent of Police Brima Kamara told Politico that they had already secured 200 acres of land between Makeni and Magburaka Highway for the construction of the academy.
ASP Brima said the reason for the establishment of the academic was to upgrade the professional standards of police officers.

Over the years, he said, the police has been receiving severe bashing for misconduct from the public and that the academic was just too timely.

Police officers would no longer be sent overseas on professional courses as everything would be done within the country, he said.
The police training school, ASP Brima added, would only be there for induction trainings while the academy would offer specific professional trainings for officers of the SLP.
The police Superintendent also noted that the Inspector General of Police had already succeeded in several ventures to upgrade the standards of the police force and that the academy would serve as his legacy when he retires.
Presently, ASP Brima further revealed, four professors and a PhD holder were putting the curriculum together and 32 trainers with at least a Masters’ Degree had been identified for the project.
He added that they had been going round the country to explain the purpose of the academy and to consult with the general public. He said they`d so far been welcomed in all communities that they visited.
