UN Secretary General visits Ebola-hit countries next week

Ban Ki-Moon

With no letup in the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone, United Nations Secretary General is scheduled to visit the country on or around the 19 December, according to impeccable sources at the UN headquarters in New York.

Ban Ki-Moon’s visit follows a grim assessment of the situation in especially Sierra Leone by Dr David Navaro, his special Ebola envoy.

Details of the visit are sketchy but our source says Mr Ban will also visit Liberia and Guinea, the other countries badly hit by the current outbreak.

The UN has set up an Ebola Response Mission (UNMEER) which is headquartered in the Ghanaian capital Accra with sub offices in the capitals of the three countries hardest hit.

But the world body has been criticized for its intervention which many say has been too little too late.
