The Integrated Project Administration Unit, IPAU in the Local Government Finance Department, has donated one desktop computer, a printer, scanner, two UPS and two giant standing fans to the Kenema library.
Communication officer, Augusta Kamara, presented the items and disclosed that the IPAU project succeeded the institutional reform and capacity building one, which managed decentralisation projects and provided oversight functions for reproductive health and decentralization service delivery project, DSDP.
She said the donation was meant to support the learning process in Kenema and bring materials to the doorstep of learners as a way to increase the culture of reading which, she observed, was lacking.
Chief Administrator of the Kenema City Council, Bockarie Buanie, expressed appreciation and said the library was a component of the ministry of education, but had received no attention.
He said there was a gentleman’s agreement between the city council and the district education officer that 20% of DSDP fund should go towards supporting the library.
Mr Buanie called for a complete separation of the budget so that the quarterly remittance to the library would be identified in the budget. He underscored the importance of the library as key to research and learning.
After receiving the items, head of library, Agnes Momoh, appreciated the donation and promised to utilize the items for their intended purpose.
