In bid to expedite crimes cases, the Commissioner of the Sierra Leone Police, Joseph Ibrahim Lahai has launched a five-day training programme for ten police officers on crime investigations including operating a forensic device.

The event took place at the Kingtom Police facility, Freetown on Monday 22nd January, 2024.

The ten officers selected from different units and departments in the Sierra Leone Police, are being trained by a Chinese Engineer named Huang.

Lahai appreciated China for helping his Directorate, noting that their equipment and programmes are funded by the taxes of the Chinese people.

He said crime scene investigations across the globe require “appropriate” equipment, adding that the equipment given by the Chinese government would be used “efficiently” in managing and responding to crime in the country.

“As we are now using electronic devices in detecting crimes, the efficient use of the equipment will help standardize our operations to meet with international standards,” Lahai said.

He encouraged the participants to make “good use” of the opportunity.

In his statement, the Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, Xu Peng recalled that the training was precipitated by the donation of the scientific devices last year by the Chinese government to the Sierra Leone Police.

Xu stated that the equipment are “modern”, and require expertise to be able operate them effectively. He said the Embassy saw the need to fly Huang from China to Sierra Leone, an expert in forensic operation, to train the police officers on the use of the  equipment.
