Just over a week after the Sierra Leone Police announced the arrest of some 18 people suspected of subversive activities against the state, the law enforcement body on Tuesday 15th August formally declared 9 military and police personnel Wanted.

A bounty of 10,000 (ten thousand) New Leones is being offered to anyone who will provide information leading to the arrest of any of the suspects.

Three of the 9 men declared wanted are middle-rank military officers- Major FS Kamara, Major I.A Bangura and Captai S.I Kargbo. The other soldiers being sought are Corporal Samura, Corporal M. Koroma, and Lance Corporal Kamara.

Also, three Policemen believed to be on the run, are being sought. They are: Sub-Inspector Soriba Sesay, Constables Janathan Samura and Mohamed Amara Bangura.

The Police had earlier confirmed the detention of the suspected coupists who had in their ranks former Police Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Turay also known as Yaetay Yaetay.

Turay was reportedly arrested in Liberia where he was said to have lived since early 2022.  He was handed over to the Sierra Leone Police after a reported request for his extradition.

Inspector-General of Police William Fayia Sellu had told journalists last week that they were holding 18 people mostly soldiers, in connection to what he said were plans to undermine the peace and security of the state.

He said as a result, steps have been taken to beef up security along the country’s borders with neighbouring Guinea and Liberia.
