Police attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Kenema division are currently investigating Musa Jayah Kamara for alleged fraud and Musa Sannoh, Mohamed Allie Kallon in a matter of alleged robbery.
Kamara according to the police was allegedly collecting money from traders in Kenema as registration fee for the National Commission for Social Action’s (NACSA) emergency cash transfer.
The Police Media Officer,Community Relations Department (CRD), Sub-Inspector Brima James Musa said Kamara posed as a worker of NaCSA and also went to the Fishery Market in Kenema registering traders, taking their photos, and collecting money from them.
‘’Police will do it best to bring justice on the matter based on the support of the traders,’’ he said.
He stated that after the suspect noticed that his activities have become alarmingly suspicious, he escaped to an unknown destination.
The officer added that Kamara later sent two of his friends Musa Sannoh and Mohamed Allie Kallon to retrieve his mobile phone from his Uncle, Mukeh Ivan Foday in order to destroy the photo evidence in the phone.
He stated that the two friends went and forcefully robbed the suspect’s uncle of money and took away the suspect’s mobile phone. He noted that, Foday later reported to the police about him being robbed while the traders reported fraud. The three suspects are currently helping with the investigations.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kenema District Traders Union, Ahmed Alusine Bah, Kamara was in possession of old NACSA slips that were issued to traders for verification.
He stated that the suspect was collecting the money from traders with the assurance of the grant from the commission and urged them to keep the slip as he said the cash transfer will be given through the World Bank and NaCSA.
He acknowledged that traders across the country have always been duped by criminals without notifying the executive, saying it was a similar situation with fraudsters such as ‘Wealth Builders’ who coined traders in many parts of the country in the guise of making them rich overnight.
