One Alimamy Sesay of Waterloo has been jailed for five years for wounding one Mohamed Jalloh with intent. Before handing down the sentence Justice Monfred Sesay described the charge on which Sesay was convicted as serious.
According to the evidence before the court, on the 8th September 2022 at Waterloo, the convict went to a cookery shop and ordered a plate of rice, which was served. After eating the rice he refused to pay despite being urged to do so by other customers including the complainant. He then left the place.
The court was told that the complainant chased Sesay to get the money from him, a struggle ensued and Sesay struck the complainant with a stick on his forehead seriously wounding him.
When Sesay was arrested by the police at Waterloo, he admitted committing the offence. His lawyer pleaded with Justice Monfred Sesay to “temper justice with mercy” because the convict had not wasted the court’s time and that he is a first time offender.
Lawyer Bangura also informed the judge that the convict had been on remand since September 2022.
