TOLONGBO RETURNS TO THE BIG HOUSE ON TOWER HILL

The rest of the Tolongbo MPs will be in parliament this week to start representing the people who elected them in June. They will join Mohamed Bangura and Alfred Thompson who defied their party’s boycott call and took their seats. From the press gallery we will observe the body language to get a sense of what to expect when serious issues come before the House – in terms of how debates and votes would go during the life of this parliament.

JULIUS MATTAI, SALONE HIGH PRIEST OF PATRIOTISM

When journalists turned up at that hastily organized government news conference at Radisson Blu the other day they thought it was one of those normal events where the government puts out information to the people through the media but it turned out to be a Julius Mattai show because he quickly convinced us of his hatred for the media. Well, he really hates that part of the media that disagrees with him.

WE MUST AVOID ANOTHER ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL COURT BATTLES

Are we walking into another court battle against another of the few significant foreign investors we have in this country? These days nobody wants to remember the long drawn out and costly legal battle we had with what is now Marampa Mining and the reputational damage that caused us. We are slowly gaining the reputation of a country where the leaders sign one agreement with a company only to revoke it a few years down the line and pass the same assets to other business concerns.

HELLO RASTA SENGS: HOW FAR WITH THE QUERIES AT YOUYI BUILDING

We woke up one morning to pictures of Rasta Sengs paying unannounced visits to the different ministries and departments at Youyi Building splashed all over social media. There were commentaries about this new guy checking those offices to see whether civil servants are normally at their desk as required to serve for the people.

GENTO SAYS HE IS OUT OF POLITICS

Gento says his days in active politics are over. That’s what he wants us to believe. His comments, made on local radio have been widely shared on social media and that has not been challenged or even modified either by personally or his media handlers. So as far as we are concerned Gento is finished with active politics in this country. Active politics in his case would mean taking a second stab at trying to be Mayor of Freetown.
