A 35-year-old accused, Hawa Moinina of 9 Race Course Road in Freetown has appeared before a Freetown Magistrate Court for illegal possession of 27 wraps of a harmful drug known as Kush.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Ross Road Court No.1 on Monday 21st August 2023.
The First Prosecution Witness (PW1), Sergeant Salamatu S. Kamara, of the Operations Department of Ross Road Police Station, testified that on the 6th of August this year, she was together with a team of officers on patrol when they got intelligence from a commercial bike rider at Up Gun that someone was selling the harmful substance, Kush.
Led in by Police Constable Ishmael Sesay, 19576, PW1 told the court that they went to the scene at 9 Jenneh Wright Road in Freetown where they met the accused sitting on the veranda of a corrugated iron shack.
According to her, the accused was cutting dried leaves suspected to be Kush on a plate and wrapping them with white paper.
The officer said the accused was also having a bag that contained One thousand eight hundred and seventy New Leones (Nle 1,870) when she was instructed to arrest the accused.
According to her, she arrested the accused and took her together with the exhibits to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ross Road Police.
During cross-examination by Lawyer Sydney Campbell, PW1 told the court that the arrest was done at about 1 am and that there were two other men at the scene but some distance away from the accused.
PW1 also admitted that there were different types of leaves, found with the accused but cannot identify all of them or tell whether they can be used for medicinal purposes.
The accused faces one count of unlawful possession of Kush. The case resumes on 28th August this year.
