Woman arraigned for wounding, assault

A woman named Randa Skeiky on Friday 19th August 2022 appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown charged on two counts of wounding and assault contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. 

According to the charge sheet, count one was for wounding contrary to section 20 of the Offences against the Persons Act of 1861. It is stated that on Friday 25th of June 2021 at Carlton Carew Road, off Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Skeiky maliciously wounded Mariam Conteh, the complainant.

On count two, she was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, contrary to section 47 of the same act. She is alleged to have on the same date and place assaulted the complainant.

The prosecution was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim Mansaray. 

A prosecuting witness, Detective Alie Bangura, attached to the Police Regional Crime Office, West, told the court that on the 1st of November 2021, the Regional Officer instructed him to charge the accused accordingly.

According to the detective, the file handed to him had the first statement and eight pictures of the complainant, which he went through and.

The charge statement and the pictures were presented and tendered to form part of the court records. 

During cross-examination, the witness was interrogated as to whether he made further investigations after the files were handed to him stated that the investigation did not conclude at the Aberdeen Police station.

Asked if he perceived any injury from the complainant, he responded by saying that he saw pictures and proffered the charges based on what was before him.No reexamination was done by the prosecution. The matter is to continue today 22nd of August 2022.
